Vetties

My favourite Afrikaans word is vetplantjie and my garden is full of them. They're gorgeous and indestructible and when i grow up I want to be just like them. I forgot to take pics of the lovelies in my garden, so these will have to do for now. Images from Beatnik Bazaar and we heart it

Melting

If you feel like you're melting in this CT heatwave, head down to the Woodlands Eatery in Vredehoek and order a mojito in a jam jar. It's cold, it's big, it's full of booze, it's R25.

Forest Love

Part 2 of our road trip was a leisurely drive from Fraserburg to Prince Albert (our honeymoon spot 3 years ago) a pit-stop in Oudtshoorn then a trek through the Outeniqua pass to their farm at the Crags. I was so full of Karoo sunshine and relaxation that I didn't want to leave. I realised that I am more of a hot dry desert person than a cool wet forest person. But after a day in the rain-soaked mossy glades and a long swim in the sea I slowly acclimatised and realised I love both. But if i had to choose, if I really had to (which I don't but I will) it will be Karoo over Forest. Any day.

Karoo Love

The Karoo runs deep in my veins. My father and his 6 siblings were born on a sheep farm 20km's from Williston called Rheebokuyer. This part of the world has huge skies and endless silence so I love going there. For the first part of our Xmas holiday my husband and I visited his dad in Fraserburg, about 94km's from Williston. It has everything I want from a Karoo dorpie, dirt roads, old stone houses, organic karoo lamb, dry dusty air, windmills on every street corner and a night sky full of stars.
